It was a Saturday morning in the beginning of his junior year. Eric Westman was at a normal football practice with the Jefferson team. On the first play of the full contact part of practice, he caught a pass and began to run upfield when a defender came from the side. All of a sudden, he felt his left knee bend outwards. Cheerleaders suffer numerous injuries by Lauren Kim Sports Editor
Senior Amanda Gilbert remembers the incident all too clearly. During Districts last year, a South Lakes base cheerleader was hit in the face and started to bleed out of her eye. This is the reality of cheer. Such an injury is one of the many types that cheerleaders get during the course of their season.
