First alumni-named fund to issue grant

Most Jefferson grads leave never to return happy with their memories and fine education. Two successful alumni have continued their association.
The new Ian Caldwell and Dustin Thomason Fund is a grant award created this year by the two distinguished alumni. The award for the 2005-2006 year is $9,000.
The annual grant is for the winning proposal from a teacher or a group of teachers from drama, foreign language and/or humanities about a new activity, performance or project. The money is to aid the costs, thus allowing for the initiative to occur without as much worries over expenses.
"The message here is to think big and think creative," said Joan Ozdogan, head of Jefferson grants. "They are asking [teachers] to use this opportunity to create an initiative that will impact programs, students and the overall TJ community."
Awards will be made on a competitive basis by a Grant Review Committee representing eligible faculty, administration, regional      educators and selected external subject expert professionals. The business manager for the grant will be the Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology Partnership Fund. Teachers can fill out a proposal cover sheet that must be turned in by 4 p.m. on Jan. 6, 2006.
